Psalm 114 verse 1 states, “When Israel came out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue…” Isn’t this verse needlessly repetitious? What is the difference between the parallel terms “Israel” and “house of Jacob,” on the one hand, and “Egypt” and “a people of foreign tongue” on the other? Isn’t this verse only half a sentence?
